Progress Reports and Parent Teacher Interviews

Posted below is important information as our school returns to normal working conditions following the recent job action.

Elementary Progress Reports
Our teachers are currently completing the fall progress report for students in Grades 1-8. As referenced in the Director of Education’s letter on November 3, 2015, these reports will be distributed in our school on December 11.  If your child’s teacher has concerns with your child’s progress, she/he will contact you to set up a meeting. If you have questions about your child’s progress and a meeting has not been set up, please speak with your child’s teacher. Please note that because progress is tracked differently, reports are not being completed for distribution to students in Junior or Senior Kindergarten.

Parent Teacher Interviews
These meetings will be initiated by your child’s teacher where there are concerns regarding student progress and may occur on the evening of Thursday, November 26, 2015 or during the day on Friday, November 27, 2015. Teachers remain committed to ongoing communication with parents regarding student progress.

Kindergarten Progress
Your child’s teacher will initiate a meeting with you if there are concerns regarding progress. As always, if you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher directly.

Individual Education Plans
If your child has an individual education plan (IEP), you will receive an updated copy during the next reporting cycle in January. If you recently had an individual placement and review committee meeting, your child’s IEP will be provided to you prior to January. Please contact your child’s special education resource teacher (SERT) if you have any questions.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our parent community for your ongoing commitment to Trillium Woods and for your patience through the recent labour situation.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the main office.

Congratulations Running Club!

On Saturday morning, members of the Trillium Woods Running Club participated in the Angus Glen Charity Run in support of the Markham Stouffville Hospital's Stollery Family Centre for Childcare & Childbirth. Staff, students, and parents have been training after school for this run since September. It was great to see so many families running and cheering. The team did Trillium Woods proud! Congratulations to all team members, and congratulations to Luxsmy, Connor, Mrs. McLeod, Ms. Bird, and Ms. Walsh for their prize qualifying times. A special thanks to Mrs. McPhail, Ms. Frohlinger, Mr. Tranter, Ms. Coleman, Mr. Hildebrandt, and Ms. Cosens for their time and efforts in organizing our fall running club and encouraging participation in this event to promote healthy active lifestyles, and support community outreach.

Go Tornadoes!

Trillium Woods Annual Cheque Drive starts Monday

On Monday, students will bring home donation forms for our school council's annual cheque drive fundraising campaign.

WHAT is the cheque drive?

  • an opportunity for a one-time donation put towards enriching the educational experiences for all of the students at TWPS.
WHY do we do it?
  • to focus on ONE major fundraising effort to enrich the experiences of our children
  • so we do not sell chocolate, wrapping paper, cookie dough, etc. door to door where only a percentage of the money collected comes to the school
  • You will receive a charitable donation tax receipt for a donation $25 or more
HOW does it work?
  • School Council provides a one page donation form on November 9th
  • you choose how much you would like to donate
  • complete the front and back of the form and submit back to the school with your donation by November 16th
WHEN is the money spent?
  • All money donated will be spent on enriching the educational experiences for all of the students this school year

NOTE:  The School Council may lead other fundraisers throughout the year such as pizza days to further support program enhancement. As well, throughout the year, separate fundraisers for non-profit organizations may be supported by the school (Terry Fox, MS read-a-thon, Jump Rope for Heart, etc). These monies are forwarded directly to the charity.

This cheque drive is our ONE major fundraiser.  We thank you in advance for your support!

Remembrance Day

Wednesday, November 11 is Remembrance Day. We will be having an observance assembly after recess in the gym (starting at 10:45am). As always, parents are welcome to join us as we gather to honour the men, women, and their families who sacrificed for our freedom.

Last Day for Photo Orders

Monday, November 9th is the last day to submit photo orders. If you are interested in ordering prints of your child's photos, please complete the on-line or hard copy order form provided with the photo proofs. Retake proofs will be sent home in the upcoming week.

Trillium Woods is a Nut Safe School

Parents and students are reminded that Trillium Woods is a nut-safe school. Many of our students have a life threatening allergy to products containing nuts. After Hallowe'en, we often see an increase in the numbers of items brought in snacks and lunches that are unsafe for students with life threatening allergies. Please check the label on the products your child is bringing and take the opportunity to remind your child not to share food at school.
