The Forest of Reading® is Canada's
largest recreational reading program! This initiative of the Ontario Library
Association (OLA) offers seven reading programs to encourage a love of reading
in people of all ages. The Forest helps celebrate Canadian books, publishers,
authors and illustrators. More than 250,000 readers participate annually from
their School and/or Public Library. All
Ontarians/Canadians are invited to participate via their local public library,
school library, or individually.
As we do yearly, we are running the Blue Spruce program which highlights ten picture
books for grades K to 3 and these books are being read to our students. If you are in the school visit the Library to
see our Blue Spruce Graffiti Board.
The Silver Birch and Silver
Birch Express are
clubs for our Grades 3 to 6 and The Red Maple program is for Grades 7 and 8
students. These students have to read at
least 6 of 10 books to be eligible to vote.
Our students have until the middle
of April to read the required books and then we will vote for our favourites
with students across Ontario. The
winners will be announced later in May.
Take time to check with your
children to see if they will be participating in any of the clubs. Discuss what they have read or heard read
this week. There is still space for
students in Grades 3 to 8 to join us. We are excited to say that overall our
Trillium Woods’ students “LOVE READING”. Thank you for
your support!
Happy
Reading Trillium Woods!
