Welcome Back!

Welcome to the Trillium Woods Tribute 2.0!

We hope that everyone had a restful and relaxing summer holiday. We hope students took the time to reflect on last school year and set new goals for 2015-2016.

Welcome to the face of the new Trillium Woods Tribute. Now you can stay up to date instantly and have access to the school calendar of events from your computer, smart phone or other devices! You can subscribe to the Tribute by clicking subscribe at the bottom of this post, or by entering your e-mail address in the "Follow us on e-mail" box on the right. The Tribute will continue to be distributed via pdf attachment for the month of September until families have a chance to subscribe to our blog.

As always, the beginning of school is a very exciting time.  On Tuesday, September 8th, 2013 Trillium Woods Public School will welcome over 650 children and 55 staff to our new school year.

As a team of lead learners, we plan to support all of our children in our building to reach their fullest potential.  We will set goals together, support the learning for all while continuously challenging each other throughout this coming school year.  Along the way, we will recognize the individual and the group successes throughout the year – successes in academics, athletics, the arts, and those who lead by example in their day to day interactions.  As we begin the year, safety is always our #1 priority – and we will be practicing fire drills and reinforcing many other safe practices throughout the months of September and October.

Please do drop in to our main office at anytime to visit and introduce yourselves. We strongly view the home and school connection as a partnership and your input helps us ensure that your child’s needs are being met.

SPECIAL TORNADO WELCOME

We would like to offer a special welcome to our newest Tornadoes: Mrs. Littlehales (Head Secretary), Ms. Kotsopoulos (FDK LTO), Ms. Visconti (CYW), Ms. Coleman (Gr. 8 LTO), Ms. McAllister (Caretaking), Ms. Shields (Gr. 2/3 LTO), Ms. Carinci (Secretary) and a special welcome back to Ms. Greenspoon (Gr. 3/4).

OPENING DAY SEPTEMBER 8TH

On the first day of school, students will be sorted into their homeroom teachers on the back tarmac, weather permitting. Tables will be set up by grade where students can check in and students will be directed to their new homeroom teacher. In order to have the process go smoothly for everyone, grade 4-8 parents please remain in front of the tables and allow their children the independence of getting to their homeroom teacher. Grade 1-3 parents may drop their child directly to homeroom teachers to explain pick-up arrangements and then are asked to leave their child with the teacher to wait with the rest of the parents so their child can begin a successful first day independently.

In the event of rain, students will be directed inside and supported by our staff to get to their new homeroom.

SCHOOL START-UP PACKAGE

On the first day of school, students will receive a start-up package containing many pertinent forms that need to be returned to the school by September 18th. If your child has a medical condition or life-threatening allergy, please let our office staff know immediately.

* NEW * OPEN ENTRY

This September we have moved to an open entry format in the morning meaning that students may enter the building at any time after 8:20 a.m. in order to prepare for the beginning of the day at 8:35. It is our goal to cut down on traffic congestion in our bus loop, reduce the number of morning lates, and preserve instructional time through this new format.

Students are expected to immediately enter the building upon arrival on school property, as we will have only limited supervision outside during morning entry.

OUR SCHOOL KISS AND RIDE

Although all non-bussed students are encouraged to walk, in order to keep our students safe, all parents need to be familiar with our Kiss ‘n Ride procedures.

Teacher supervision begins at 8:20, students may be dropped off at any time between 8:20 and 8:35. At this time, all vehicles must drop students off at our Kiss ‘n Ride lane.

Vehicles should remain in the right hand lane closest to the sidewalk. Vehicles should not cross the pylons and enter the left lane to pass other cars for any reason. We appreciate your patience as we attend to the safety of all students.

Students will be assisted exiting their vehicles from the passenger side by a staff member. Please do not get out of your vehicle as this slows the traffic and increases congestion in the lane.

There is absolutely NO PARKING in the Kiss 'n' Ride lane at any time.

Parents should not use the parking lot for student drop off before school, at lunchtime, or after school.  These parking spaces are for our staff members or for parents who need to enter the school to meet with a staff member.

We must all pull together to ensure the safety of our students. Please help all students arrive safely.

The bus loop is closed to all vehicles (except school buses) at any time of day, as it is a posted fire route.

SAFE WELCOME AND SCHOOL VISITORS

During the school day, all exterior doors will remain locked. Any visitors to the school must enter through the front doors. This includes parents visiting classrooms, dropping off lunches, joining classes on field trips. No parents should be entering the school through other doors.

For the safety of our students, it is important that unfamiliar adults in the building check in at the office and obtain a visitor/volunteer badge that identifies them as a “safe” adult.

Parents picking up children at the end of day or during the lunch hour should remain outside of the building and meet their child at an agreed upon rendezvous location. Let’s keep our kids safe and aware of routines for unfamiliar adults.

LUNCH DROP OFF

Lunch time is a busy time at Trillium Woods. Parents who wish to drop-off their child's lunch after the start of the instructional day are asked to leave the students lunch labelled with their name and homeroom in one of the storage coolers outside. The coolers are brought into the foyer at the commencement of lunch and lunches are placed on the table outside the office. Parents picking up students need to arrange an outside meeting place and are asked not to enter the building to wait for students.

NUT-SAFE School

Many of our students have a life-threatening allergy to nuts. For this reason, we are a nut-safe school. Please help us ensure the health and safety of all of our students by:
  • Letting the school know immediately if your child has a life-threatening allergy or medical condition and complete the appropriate forms.
  • Practicing measures to avoid allergens, such as:
  • Checking the ingredients label on any food students bring to school.
  • Avoiding sending nut products or peanut butter replacements.
  • Encouraging your child to wash their hands thoroughly before arriving at school to ensure they are not bringing any trace amounts of the allergen to school.
  • Encouraging handwashing with soap before and after eating.

Safe Arrival

Ensuring a safe environment at Trillium Woods includes our Safe Arrival Policy. Please call the school office when you know your child will be late or away from school. You will receive a phone call home in the morning if your child is absent and you have not reported their absence.

Attendance is taken immediately following the National Anthem which is played each day at 8:35 a.m. – the beginning of our instructional day.  Our office staff make it a priority every morning to check on the safe arrival of each of our Trillium Woods students.

Cell Phones and Personal Electronic Devices

Cell phones and other devices that connect to the Internet are not permitted in classrooms or outside at recess unless students are specifically directed by and supervised by teachers. If your child carries a phone for safety reasons before and after school, they are expected to leave it in their locker and turned off during the day.

MARK SUMMARIES

Mark summaries of term 2 marks are only available by parent pick-up in the main office.
The mark summary sheets are not official records and will not be placed in the student’s Ontario Student Record (OSR) – they are for parents’/guardians’ information only. The end of year official record remains the grade placement/promotional letter that was distributed in June.
